Services and Associations

In Toronto you will find the Ghanaian Canadian Association of Ontario. They offer a variety of resources and services for students coming from Ghana. They offer education programs and tutoring to help students enhance their academic performance in Canada. You can also find great Ghanaian restaurants such as The Suya Spot and Panafest. Both located 6 minutes away from City College, these places are packed full of flavour, providing you with all the dishes you love from home.

Toronto also offers a variety of African grocery stores. Afrocan Foods and Naomi African Food are both located only a few minutes from City College. Both these stores offer you all the food and products you know and love.

 

Celebrations and Festivals

There are many African celebrations held in Toronto, Afrofest is held every year at Woodbine park in Toronto. Now in its 28th year Afrofest has grown to be North America's largest free music festival. Afrofest showcases the best in African music, art, crafts, culture and food.

AFEX (African Experience Festival) is also a popular event that takes place in Toronto during the summer. Filled with art, music, dance classes, food, sports and exhibitions all celebrating African culture, this festival is sure to bring you a little piece of home right here in Toronto.

Transportation

Toronto also has a vast transit system. With buses, trains and subways there is no shortage of transportation to get your around the city. Running from 6am until about 1am transit is a great way to get around the city. Toronto also has many taxi services to get you where you need to go. City College is conveniently accessed by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) with a stop located right outside our doors.

 

Activities

Toronto offers a wide range of activities. From live concerts, street festivals, markets, hiking trails, beaches, lots of shopping malls, movie theaters, athletic centers and more.

Located less than 15 minutes away from City College you will find Downsview Park. This green space and collection of buildings hosts a variety of activities. Join a sports league at one of its many athletic fields, enjoy a concert or purchase some local goods at the market. You are sure to find something fun to do.

Connecting You Back Home

There are Western Unions located all over Toronto, making it easy for you to send and receive money from Ghana. Calling cards are also readily available at most convenience stores, allowing you to easily call home whenever you'd like.
